The ancient building is the witness of the development of human history. It is an important significance of the protection of the ancient building in China which has a long history of ancient civilization. Under the premise of without destroying detect the ancient building, in order to prove its structure and potential hazard. Ground penetrating radar is a kind of geophysical methods which transmitting rules use the high-frequency pulse electromagnetic waves to detect the structure of the target.Characterized by harmlessness, rapidness, and high precision, GPR gradually apply to the nondestructive detection of the ancient building, and is the ideal method and advanced means and methods of the preliminary investigations of the ancient building, and provide scientific basis for the protection. It has the actual value and significance. In this paper, the detection work of the Dengfeng Observatory is used to study the GPR in the path of detection of the ancient building. And through data processing and analysis, prove its structure and potential hazard.The main contents of this paper and research results are as follows:1. According to the work of GPR theory and the characteristics, study all aspects of technology of GPR nondestructive technology, that is, data acquisition, data processing and data interpretation.2. Complete the Dengfeng Observatory's data acquisition work and the data processing, summarizes the processing methods Dengfeng Observatory's data.3. Take the Dengfeng Observatory as the research object, and make sure its internal structure by the means of GPR data processing and analysis of the obtained data.4. Summarize the basic characteristics of time section by processing and analysis the Dengfeng Observatory's data and combining the characteristics of the ancient building. Thereby, it provides a certain testimony to the nondestructive detection of the ancient building.The GPR provides the reliable scientific basis for the better protect work. Due to its own characteristics, GPR will play more and more important role in the nondestructive detection of the ancient building.
