Because the power electronic and the increasingly maturation of large-power AC motor variable frequency speed control technology, the ship electric propulsion technology becomes the development trend of future ship power plant. With the coming out of DSP and the rapid development control technology with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM), digital controlled electric propulsion technology will have a wide foreground, which uses PMSM as power units and adopts high quality control strategy. At present, the research of ship electric propulsion technology is still at the starting stage in China. Therefore, modeling and simulation have deepen understanding on the ship electric Propulsion System and hopes that it can promote the theoretical research on the system.First of all, according to the mathematical model of PMSM, the inductance parameters of the large power PMSM in the steady operation have been calculated. Then based on the theory of PMSM Vector Control, the simulation model which use the modulation strategy of current hystersis PWM, SPWM and SVPWM have been established. The simulation results shows that the short response time but big speed fluctuation in the comparatively simple current hystersis PWM model, when the system received step disturbance. Meanwhile in the relatively complicated model of SPWM and SVPWM. bigger speed fluctuation in the stage of starting motor but little fluctuation when the system received step disturbance. Furthermore it have smaller torque ripple when the system is stable. With the theory of PMSM Direct Torque Control, the simulation model which use the Traditional DTC and SVM-DTC have been studied. It shows that the scheme of SVM-DTC has better torque dynamic performance and can decrease the torque ripple effectively. Finally this paper have analyzed and researched on the hull-propeller model and the ship integrated electric propulsion simulation system was established.Some exploring research on ship electric propulsion system taking the PMSM as the propulsion motor has been developed in this paper. Some significant conclusions have been drawn by academic analysis and simulation. This paper is the base of further research for the subject.
