The steering characteristic which is one of the core of vehicle technologies, it plays a critical role in vehicle handling, stability and security. Moreover the design of steering mechanism plays a decisive role in the steering characteristic, it affects the steering characteristic, driving comfort, life of tire and so on.《The steering characteristic of pinion and rack steering mechanism》thesis utilized analytical method to set up plane, orthogonal (The space position of steering mechanism components is taken into account) and suspension (The space angle of steering mechanism components and Kingpin Inclination are taken into account) mathematical model. Among them, the steering angle of the suspension model is redefined. The impact on steering angle of orthogonal and suspension model caused by the bounce of wheel is researched. The difference of the steering angles among the three types of mathematical model is compared and the sensitivity analysis of the steering angle that caused by the change of pinion and rack steering mechanism component is carried on.The thesis proposed and derived steering center of front wheels mathematical model, analyzed the distribution of the front wheels' steering center while steering, summed up how the component of steering mechanism impacts the distribution of steering centers.The thesis proposed steering-toe-in model and defined it, obtained the steering-toe-in curves of the toe-in adjusted and the vehicle has pre-add toe-in or not. Ascertained the instantaneous center while the steering angle doesn't comply with the Ackerman principle, and analyzed the influence on steering caused by toe-in.According to the above content, the thesis puts forward and regards steering center deviation of the front wheels and steering-toe-in angle deviation as optimal design objective, compared the two kinds of optimal functions with the traditional optimal function whose name is steering angle deviation, and then analyzed the feasibility and superiority of the two functions.The thesis adopted C++ Builder to compile the software and used it to research the regularity for the change of Kingpin Inclination while bouncing and carry on simulation for the theory and the process of steering in order to aid the steering mechanism design.
