On the global background of promoting energy conservation and energy efficiency, power system was facing unprecedented challenges in two aspects: first, the deterioration of the environment have forced people to consider adopting a cleaner energy sources; second, the rapid development of electronic equipment needed to upgrade the conversion efficiency of power system. Higher economic value of the switching power made its design market more competitive.Based on the in-deep study of the interrelated technique of the DC-DC Boost converters, a low input voltage Boost converter had been designed. The system adopted current PWM control mode, can bear input voltage as low as 0.45V and sustained steady output voltage of 3.3V.Firstly, the main topology had been chosen. A specification was put forward, the working principles of the converter were also been explained. By consideration the key factors of the circuit design the structure of the converter was defined, then the design procedure of some primary function blocks were presented, just like bandgap reference, error amplifier, oscillator, slope compensation, comparator and LDO, with the simulation by Cadence Spectre. Last, system simulation was done in order to verify the design objective. The design was implemented based on the TSMC 0.18μm technologies, with fully system-level simulations. The results indicated that the converter had a fast transient response with small output ripple efficiency less than 1%, upstanding load regulation less than 1% and quite fine efficiency even as high as 95%. The design objective was achieved.
