Nitrogen Oxygen Detector (NOD) is one kind of nitrogen specific detector. The strength stems from the characteristics of high sensitivity, selectivity and wide linear range, etc. Presented here is about the development and performance evaluating of NOD.NOD applied with GC consisted of pyrolyzed tube, ozone generator, reaction chamber and vaccum pump. Each unit was optimized to obtain the key parameters of NOD:with a 20cm length pyrolyzed tube (lmm i.d.) and CF-YL-01 ozone generator, the optimal oxygen flow rate at 25sccm(standard-state cubic centimeter per minute), the pyrolyzed temperature at 500℃, the vacuum pressure within 170 to 300Pa and the pyrolyzed tube with the column directly at a length of 22cm.Referring to the evaluation criteria of Flame Photometric Detector (FPD), a method for evaluating NOD was developed. The performance of NOD was tested by the chosen method and the comparison about the performance of NOD, FID and UV was also investigated. The results indicated that the noise and drift were 1.1×1O-5V and 2×10-5V/h respectively; the retention time RSD and the peak height RSD were 0.8% and 2.4%(n=9). Compared with FID and UV, NOD was more sensitivity.Although the performance of sensitivity and linear range should be improved, several figures of this NOD was presented to show a similar performance with a commercialized one. It provided a strong data support for further improvement and filling the domestic products gap.
