Desalination is a sunrise industry in the 21st century. The global water crisis provides an unprecedented opportunity for desalination industry development in coastal areas of water shortages. The desalination system at thermal power plants is the system which makes use of low-cost extraction heat source from thermal power plants for seawater desalination treatment, in order to achieve water and electricity production. In this paper, the theme is based on mass unit matrix analytical method, through thermal system performance analysis of the 600MW condensate pumping unit, establishing the thermal economy analysis, calculation and evaluation model of the thermal system, building a water/electricity/heat consumption sharing model and further establishing the total cost analysis and calculation model for desalination of seawater. By analyzing sensitivity for the total cost of desalination and the use of on-site data obtained, verifying the correctness of the model, in order to explore the adaptability scope of desalination plant to the load, making water ratio, and coal-price, etc. giving feasibility proposals for optimization of unit operation and management.
