With the shortage of water resources, energy saving and environmental protection, it is more and more important for power plant to decrease coal consumption. Drift eliminator is equipment which is used for saving water in the cooling tower. In this paper, experiment and numerical simulation methods are used for three types of drift eliminator (Single-fold zig-zag, Two-fold zig-zag and zig-zag sinusoidal drift eliminator).It's analyzed and summarized that the variation of separation efficiency and pressure drop with wind speed and plate space through the wind tunnel test. The experiment results indicate that separation efficiency and pressure drop of three types of drift eliminator from high to low are Two-fold zig-zag,Single-fold zig-zag and zig-zag sinusoidal drift eliminator. The separation efficiency and pressure drop increase with the wind speed increases. This paper carried out experimental values to orthogonal experiment, analysis the primary and secondary order of the separation efficiency and pressure drop, which can provide the theoretical basis for future experiments.CFD software was used to simulate the characteristics of the flow fields of three types of drift eliminators. The simulation parameters set by the experimental data, experimental data validated that the model is reasonable, the biggest deviation of the separation efficiency is 15%, and the biggest deviation of the pressure drop is 20%. The results indicate that the separation efficiency and pressure drop decrease with the transition angle increases. With the transition angle of 37°,45°and 53°, the separation efficiency of the Single-fold zig-zag drift eliminator are as follows:73%,58.5% and 30.5%. When other conditions are the same, the separation efficiency of the drift eliminator which droplet diameters subject to Rosin-Rammler distribution is lower than the uniform distribution and the pressure changes only slightly.This paper is studied the main factors which influence the separation efficiency and pressure drop of Single-fold zig-zag, Two-fold zig-zag and zig-zag sinusoidal drift eliminator. It summarizes the law which can provide instructively significant to design and optimize of the drift eliminator.
