As the main machine of construction machinery, hydraulic excavator is multifunctional and broadly used in construction field. Many building companies prefer hydraulic excavators because they are multispecies, multifunctional and of high quality, meanwhile, the manufacture of hydraulic excavators is thriving day by day.Consulting the information of excavator development at home and abroad, we can find that famous foreign manufacturers of hydraulic excavator attach importance to experimental research work and application of computer technology in the design methods, while domestic manufacturers are staying at the stage of mapping, and the application of systematic CAD(Computer-Aided Design) is not carried widely, and yet not mature enough. This paper undertakes a study in this field and completes a set of CAD method which is used to the design of excavator.Firstly, UG software is taken as a platform to exploit a working equipment parametric design module by using tools like UG/open API and UG/Open Grip, and so on. It can quickly establish the model of working equipment, through entering the basic parameters at user-defined interface.Then, to assemble the model of the component of working equipment and import it to the ADAMS software for kinematics and dynamics simulation. It can complete various mining tracks through controlling the movement of cylinder. By the envelope curves simulation, we can get working dimension parameters as maximum digging height, maximum digging depth, etc..Finally, the loading can be calculated by empirical formula, and then exert it on the tip of bucket tooth to carry out dynamic simulation in the ADAMS. Importing the loading file, which is created from the simulation, into ANSYS software to be taken as the boundary conditions of FEA(Finite Element Analysis), thus improves the accuracy and the degree of automation of the FEA simulation, therefore the co-simulation of ADAMS and ANSYS is realized.In order to verify the correctness of the simulation analysis, this paper applies matrix method in analysizing the working equipment, and the calculation results are generally consistent with the simulation results, which shows the correctness of the simulation analysis.In order to improve the simulation accuracy, the flexible-body dynamic simulation analysis will be executed, that is, the key components of the working equipment will be made flexible, and the elastic deformation will be also considered.This paper realizes excavator working equipment Computer-Aided Design with the application of three engineering softwares, UG, ADAMS and ANSYS, which can elevate the developing efficiency, shorten the design cycle, and improve the quality and reliability of the products. Thereby it can bring obvious economic benefit.
