Study On The Transportation Organization Of Urban Pedestrian Street

Reformand opening up have developed for three decades, many Chinese cities have made a great progress, and the urban functions have become more complete. As an important element of urban development, urban pedestrian streets became to be popular with the government and the urban residents. Designing the Urban pedestrian streets which can create a favorable environment in high quality and comfortable in the end is aimed at improving the commercial environment of urban areas and traffic pressure in central district and inosculating the human, the space and the environment.The emergence of pedestrian streets brought along the development of commercial activities in the surrounding region. The pedestrian streets attracted a large number of people and enrich the quality of residents. But when the pedestrian streets are put into operation, many problems appeared. Especially, the problems in traffic organization system influenced the building of good space in the pedestrian streets strongly. Although the passage of motor vehicles is forbidden, the inside and the entrance of pedestrian streets were all mixed up because of the lack of scientific and rational organizational planning. Besides, The traffic pressure increase significantly on surrounding areas. In addition, due to weak of supervision and management of pedestrian streets, walking street traders tie up the road occupation and the phenomenon of illegal parking is were also very serious.The paper discussed in three parts. First, it meant to finds the problems and analyses the reason of the shortage. Second, it tried to find the solutions for settling the problems. Third, the application of the theory. The paper introduced the pedestrian streets both at home and abroad, and summed up the traffic problems at first. Then, the paper studied on operation conditions of the pedestrian streets, and found out some reasonable traffic improvement program and organizational principles at the same time. The most important part of the paper was to sum up the theory and methods applied to the actual pedestrian street traffic organization, and it took Xi'an city as an example. This paper selected two pedestrian streets in Xi'an, the first one is Luomashi Pedestrian Street, and the other is called Datang Sleepless Town Pedestrian Street. The author has taken more time to research the two pedestrian streets, and conducted a number of field studies and specific improvement measures of traffic organization based on the specific problems witch found from the research.With that the author hope to making the transportation system of two pedestrian streets becomes more complete.
