Composite beam achieves good economic and social benefits. Shear connectors are very necessary and important in composite beam. Shear connectors are widely used to transfer longitudinal shear forces across the steel-concrete interface in steel-concrete composite beams. Many scholars have studied the behavior of shear connectors. Up to now, most of the studies focus on the stud shear connectors. A review of the literature indicates that very little research work has been done on the channel shear connectors. The research emphasis of this paper is on channel shear connectors. First, a finite element model has been established. Then, the model has been validated against test results. Parametric studies using this nonlinear model are performed to investigate the variations in concrete strength, channel dimensions and the orientation of the channel which have influence on the bearing ability of shear connectors. At the same time, the deformation of a typical channel shear connector is also analyzed. The model datas have been compared with datas given by CAN/CSA-S16-2001 and GB50017-2003. A simple formula is suggested to calculate the bearing capacity of channel shear connectors. By comparing with the finite element results, the feasibility of the suggested formula is proved.
