The expressway had developed rapidly in virtue of the enhancement of comprehensive national power in our country. For the sake of the comfortable driving condition, bridges in the highway should have better continuous behavior and less expansion joints. The simply supported continuous beam bridges combined with the advantages of the continuous beam bridges and the precast beam bridges, so that it had been widely applied and developed. This thesis summarized the situation of development and study; recommended the fundamental theory of calculation and analysis, and also the forms and design characteristics; analyzed the mechanical behavior of the simply supported continuous beam bridge.Considered that the cracking and destruction mode varies by the differences of the least favorable load distribution, this thesis analyzed the different load distributions and makes some results combined with existing test results for the reference. It can draw a conclusion that the piers, especially the side piers of simply supported continuous rigid-frame bridges sustained major temperature internal forces on the temperature effect, and the same time it suggested improvement measures. At last, it made a summary about design methods and construction technology, and suggested some related problems about design and construction. The research results make a reference for the design and construction of simply supported continuous beam bridges. The author strongly believes that the theoretical fruits produced in this research will certainly promote the further application of such kinds of structural system and benefit our country greatly.
