Electric Power Steering (EPS) is a recently developed a new type of steering system, with a series of advantages such as fuel economy, reducing weight, improving active safety and beneficial to environmental protection. It has a trend that replacing the traditional hydraulic power steering, and has become research focus in automotive technology. The rapid increasing of computer performance and rapid development of virtual prototyping simulation technology provide the necessary conditions for in-depth study electric power steering technology.First of all, this paper implements multi-objective optimization design of reducer based on the EPS theories, using optimization toolbox function fminimax of MATLAB software. In the process of optimization design, this paper targets the smallest worm transmission center distance, and the smallest of worm crown volume and the total volume. It provides basis for the development and application of new EPS products in the future.Secondly, this paper creates three-dimensional model of automobile EPS Reducer using Pro/E software, based on the optimal solution of EPS reducer for multi-objective optimization design. This paper creates three-dimensional model of rack and pinion steering, and completes the assembly design of overall automobile EPS model finally, through analysis and comparison of the structure of EPS steering.Again, this paper studies simplified finite element model and the basic mesh method of ANSYS software, and check the strength of the gear shaft and the planet carrier in the automotive EPS structural.Finally, this paper creates the dynamic model of automobile EPS, booster motor model, two degrees of freedom dynamic model and tire model. This paper designs boost characteristic curve of EPS, selecting the parameters. This paper also simulates the steering feel and steering sensitivity and other performance using MATLAB software, based on their definitions.
