The silicon rubber composite insulators have strong anti-pollution flashover ability for its excellent hydrophobic properties and hydrophobic transfer properties. However, flashovers accidents frequently occur for insulator surface pollution, especially the insulators were used around cement plants. Hence, it is important to research the flashover characteristic of the composite insulators being used in heavy pollution environment.The hydrophobic transfer characteristic of composite insulator with different pollution was studied in the paper. The hydrophobic properties will decrease with the increasing of the pollution content. The flashover characteristic of the hydrophilic polluted insulators and the hydrophobic polluted insulators after long time transfer was studies in the paper also. It is found that the flashover voltage will decrease with the increasing of the pollution content and the flashover voltage of the hydrophobic insulators is higher than the hydrophilic insulators.
