Insulators are important component of transmission and transforming system, the reliability of insulator will directly influence the reliability of transmission and transforming system. Mechanical characteristics of porcelain and glass insulators have important meaning for their operation. In the dissertation, probability and statistics theory was used to mechanical characteristic detection of porcelain insulator, and artificial interference was decreased, the accuracy and reliability of detection result was improved. Hydrophobicity and its migration characteristic is key index of composite insulator and room temperature vulcanization (RTV) silicone rubber coating, which is a key point of their anti-pollution flashover capacity. In the dissertation, hydrophobicity class was used to globules figures, and then level set method was used to judge hydrophobicity class of figures. Area ratio and shape factor were calculated by globule area, finally, hydrophobicity composite insulator and RTV coating were obtained automatically. The proposed method decrease artificial interference and workload. The effectiveness of the method was verified by the real globules figures. Static contact angle method is an important hydrophobicity detection method for silicone rubber material. For accurate obtaining of static contact angle of silicone rubber, in the dissertation, a method integration of circle fitting and ellipse fitting method was introduced to silicone rubber hydrophobicity detection. Calculation result of simulated figures and various hydrophobicity and globule volume silicone rubber globule figures indicates that: the method can obtain static contact angle accurately in different hydrophobicity and globule volume, which can used to obtain hydrophobicity of silicone rubber material.
