Double stator permanent magnet synchronous generator has important applications in many situations such as mobile power generation vehicle and electric vehicle, which have restrict requirement for space, because of its characteristics of high efficiency and high power density. However, there is no feasible design process for double stator permanent synchronous generator presently. In this paper, the internal motor and external motor are designed respectively, and then integrated into a general design using response surface method. The main contents are as following:Firstly, the basic principles of response surface method and its application steps are introduced, and then the basis function used to construct the response surface function, the sampling methods of response surface sample points group and the fast global optimization method which combines response surface method and random optimization method are introduced.Secondly, improvement has been made in response surface method. In the first instance, the multi-response surface method with extended promoter region on the basis of multi-response surface methodology is presented, which is fit to the strongly non-linear occasion particularly, and can improve the calculation precision. In the next place, response surface method is combined with the Metropolis criterion, which is fit to the situation with multiple optimal points. In the end, response surface method is used in genetic algorithms, which speeds up the convergent speed in latter stages. The improvement above is verified by typical functions respectively.Finally, the response surface method optimization of double stator permanent magnet synchronous generator, prototype electromagnetic field calculation and research on prototype are presented. In the first place, the principle structure of double stator permanent magnet synchronous generator, the design method of double stator permanent magnet synchronous generator and the parameters, constraints, the form of the objective function are illustrated. In the second place, response surface method is used in the design of double stator permanent magnet synchronous generator prototype. In the end, finite element analysis is used to analyze the prototype and prototype testing is carried out.
