Due to the serious environment pollution in recent years, more and more attentions have been paid to the development and the utilization of clean energy. Among different kinds of energies, the technology of wind power has become a hot research topic due to the non-polluting and renewable characteristics of the wind energy. In this academic dissertation, a half direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator which has three-stage U-shaped magnet steel is taken as an example. Then the optimization of permanent magnet synchronous generator u-shaped magnet steels is studied based on FEM.First, the rotor structure of the permanent magnet synchronous generator is analyzed. The appropriate on the rotor structure is chosen according to the working principle and working characteristics. Then the equivalent magnetic circuit model of the permanent magnet synchronous generator which has a three-stage magnetic steel is analyzed, and the magnetic circuit model of the permanent magnet synchronous generator, the magnetic flux leakage at the bridge and the computational formulas of the main magnetic flux are put forward.Second, the rotor structure model of the half direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator with three-stage U-shaped magnet steel is built, using the CAD software. The stator model is built using Rmxpt in Ansoft Maxwell software. In this method, the model of a half direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator which has a U-shaped magnetic steel is completed.The next, the author used local optimization design method and built several models of different working conditions through changing the arranged angle between the three-stage U-shaped magnets, with unaltered size of the three-stage U-shaped magnets. The above models are simulated and calculated based on the Ansoft Maxwell software and reasonable subdivision mesh.And finally, the U-shaped magnets generator performance of the no-load characteristics, the short-circuit characteristics and the load characteristics are analyzed by FEM. Among them, the characteristics of on-load EMF waveform, voltage sinusoidal waveform distortion rate, iron loss and especially air gap flux density, the magnetic flux leakage at the bridge and the cogging torque are analyzed with the impact of three-stage U-shaped magnet arrangement angles. Meanwhile, Load and short-circuit characteristic calculates terminal voltage, terminal current situation, the torque ripple and short-circuit current are analyzed with the impact of three-stage U-shaped magnet arrangement angles. At the same time the chute is the influence on on-load air gap flux density.
