With the advance of power and electronic technology and progress of control technique recently, Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) was presented in plenty of areas. It is widely used as its advantage of simple structure, great starting torque, as well as high efficiency and so on. Besides ever research, the main study works of this paper are as follows:Topology, principle and character of operation of SRM was introduced, motor performance was calculated. SRM design program was made in MATLAB language.Based on the operation principle and character of SRM, a non-linear simulation mode was made in MATLAB to simulate motor's operation.Ansoft is a common software in the designing and analysis of SRM, this paper will use the Rmxprt which is a part of Ansoft to design motors and gain the steady parameters and performance. Then this paper will creat two-dimensional model and analyze it in Maxwell which is another part of Ansoft. At last we can get magnetic field distribution and all kinds of performance curves, coil current. a time-stepping finite element behavioral model was developed to verify motor's performance, which will show that the electric machine design is feasible. coil current. a time-stepping finite element behavioral model was developed to verify motor performance.Upon design equations, simulation result and finite analysis, an experimental motor and controller was made. Finally, test results of the experimental motor are provided to verify the design equations and benefits of the controller.
