Insomnia, snore and sleep apnea become the important factors which influence the contemporary people's spirit and health. We can understand the sleep structure and improve sleep quality through monitoring and analyzing the acquisition of human physiological parameters. It is one of the most important research directions about computer application. As a key technology of sleep study, it has broad prospects for application in the field of sleep medicine. And it becomes the 21st century's new research focus of the life science.At present, sleeping is detected only in the hospital. In this condition, this paper designs a portable sleep monitor based on pulse transiting time. During patient sleep, can be easily recorded with ECG, pulse, eye movements, nose and mouth airflow, chest movement, abdominal movement, oxygen, EMG, snoring, and so on biological parameters. Using wavelet transform technique we can obtain accurate pulse transit time, and analyses various physiological parameters based on information fusion. So the objective assessment and scientific expression can be done on the entire sleep process. It is conducive to diagnosis for various types of sleep disorder. For the hardware design, micro-power consumption and size become the important factors of the program for consideration.Hardware system, composed by USB-based MCU C8051F341, liquid crystal display modules, memory module, sensor modules, collecting amplifier module, filter module. Due to its character of low power waste, we use its ten bits A/D controller acquires nine kinds of physiological signals. Because C8051F341 integrates USB controller, this hardware design is more convenient and the system has higher transmission speed. Compared with general data acquisition card, it is much cheaper, more flexible. And it also has the characteristic of plug play. The firmware was developed by C51 language.This system uses the based on pulse transiting time of portable sleep monitor to record and store the real-time data. It achieves a low cost, high reliability, multi-channel data acquisition. Doctors can input the data into the computer through the USB interface of the sleep monitor. It also achieves the purpose of the plug-and-play, easy and convenient. Then they can use the software of sleep breathing analysis to research and diagnose and cure for insomnia or sleep apnea syndrome. This system has been made in good running effect in practical application.
