Owing to the good engineering property, the application of coarse grained soil hasbecoming increasingly widespread in practice, especially in the rock-earth dams. But thenebulous points in its compaction characteristic, permeability and shear property make itfar from its desired consequence and wider use.To adapt to the demands of the swift development of the projects, the admixture androller compaction experiment and indoor permeabilitytest were introduced in this paper bythe practice, aiming to provide some references for the further studyof coarse grained soil.This paper carried on thoroughly studies about engineering property of extender offine grained soil and aggregate, mainlyincluding four aspects as follows:(1) The research reviewed the main progress and achievement of the coarse grained soiland then focused on the studyof its existing experiment and theoryresearch result.(2)Based on the field test of admixture, wet process and dryprocess were judged;tilingvertical mining and conveyor process were compared too.(3) Field test of roller compaction experiment was designed and some influencingfactors that should be taken notice in the process of quality control were discussed too,such as roller machines, coarse fraction, paving thickness, roller frequency, the moisturecontent of material.(4) In this paper, fine grained soil was adulterated with gravel at varied ratios andresearch was carried out to see the change of compaction property, compressibility andpermeability after being mixed with gravel.
