It is well known that the quality of shafting alignment is very important in the shipbuilding. The long-term's reliable operation of shafting and ship is remarkably affected by the shipping shafting alignment. Especially in the modern time of building large ships, the study and application for shafting alignment is becoming one of the most important tasks that need to be solved.Virtual Instrument is becoming a popular tool in measurement, test and automation as a result of rapid development of computer technology. Date acquisition is one of the principal functions of virtual instruments, and the first step in all tests and measurement tasks. Lab VIEW is featured with strong software support to DAQ products as the development tool for virtual instruments. So it is easier and more convenient to realize data acquisition with Lab VIEW. Taking DAQcard-6024E (made by NI Company in US) for example, the paper demonstrates the VI system design.Application of the test system of alignment for marine propulsion shafting based on Lab VIEW 8.5 is introduced by this paper. The hardware composition and block diagram of the system is explained. The virtual instrument as the test system of shafting system consists of laptop, DAQcard-6024E data collection card, sensor, connecting board and other components. The system can instantly display the data of pressure and displacement of bearing, write the data into hard disk and save the data in the form of file. The system was used to test the intermediate bearing of a container marine. It proves that the system has credibility performance and is easy to be operated.
