Traction Power Network is one of key equipment including in electrified railway, it play a vital role in the stable operation of electrified railway, but the safety and reliability of traction power network will be serious threaten by lightning. So evaluating the lightning performance and reducing the lightning disservice of traction power network have an important theoretical significance and engineering applications.According to the analyzing lightning performance of HV transmission line, the paper evaluates lightning performance of traction power network by using electromagnetic transient simulation program. It builds the model of OCS(overhead contact system), the model of mast, the model of impact grounding resistance, the model of insulator, the model of surge arrester and simulates the situation of lightning traction mast under different lightning waveform and with or without protection wires, and lightning feeder, lightning messenger wire and other overhead contact system by using PSCAD software. The Lightning Withstanding Level has been evaluated under various lightning conditions by simulation, and also verifies accuracy and correctness of the model by comparing the simulation results with literature. Finally, the lightning protection measures have been simulated including setting the surge arrest, reducing the impact grounding resistance, strengthen insulation of lines, and have a preliminary exploration of traction power network about lightning shielding effect by the electric geometry method.The simulation calculations show that the protection lines play an important role in improving the lightning withstanding level of traction power network and reducing the insulator flashover, but the arresters have a larger limitation on improving the lightning withstanding level of the whole traction power network and protection scope, and it show that the more possibility of lightning feeder in overhead contact system by electric geometry method.
