While the truss of rectangle steel tube is used more and more widely at present, the special research on strengthening this kind of truss joint is little, according to referring to the professional documents. In practical engineering, strengthening joints is a widely used way to design both economical and safe steel constructions. So this subject does research and discrimination on three most commonly used ways dealing with truss joints of rectangle steel tube, combined a real project at one railway station. The following are the research in details.1. The research on behavior of joint strengthened by outer thimbles.2. The research on behavior of joint strengthened by stiffened plates.3. The research on behavior of intersecting joint of common rectangle steel tubes.In this subject, two sorts of ways are used to do the research on the mechanical performance of the three kinds of joints mentioned above:one is to do finite-element simulation of the test model; the other one is test verification. The test uses abstract and reduced-scale way to design, considering the construction design of the joints in practical project and the wide applicability which is worthy researching. In order to decrease the adverse effect on the testing result from the reduced-scale model, this experiment adopts the proportion of 1:2 to carry out in the structure experimental centre of SWJTU.From the simulation and practical research on the test model, it can be indicated that compared with the joints without any slightest strengthening, both the generally significant method dealing with the truss joints, such as the liner stiffened plate and the outer thimble obtain better rigidity and bearing capability for joints. Considering the case in this project, the destruction of the test and the result of simulation, comparatively speaking, the dealing method of strengthening the outer thimble has better comprehensive performance for joints. Moreover, with this kind of structure, construction is easy to conduct and the quality is easy to be guaranteed. So it is advised to take strengthening the buter thimble as the best dealing method when special strengthening to the joints is needed, in terms of designing the steel structure work which is based on the theory of elastic design.
