Reactive power optimization is one of the most important control methods to ensure power system operation securely and economically, and an effective measure to improve the voltage profile and reduce the loss. The study of the problem of reactive power optimization has the great significance both in theory and practical application.The stability of the system voltage has been influenced by compensation degree of node's reactive power and adjusted capability of node's voltage. It will increase the loss of active power and down the control capability of node's voltage if the reactive power transmitted long distance in power network. A fit partitioning of network is good to balance the reactive power on the spot, to control the node's voltage. Considering the relationship of the area's reactive power and voltage, it use the max-min electrical distance to form initial areas by merging the adjacency nodes, while reactive power supply nodes act as start nodes. On the base of the initial division, it can get reasonable partitions while use the max-min electrical distance method again and again. It is do reactive power optimization to the whole system after the partition. The result of simulation of IEEE 30 system verified that the method of this paper proposed is practicable, reasonable and correctable.It is based on one load curve though a lot of researchers made studies on the reactive power optimization between some time segments. It is maybe different about the changing trend among the nodes when the power system running in the practical, so it is maybe different among the node's active power and reactive power. So, it is practical and necessary to research the reactive power optimization based on different load curves among system nodes. This paper studied the load curves divided when there are many different load curves in system at the same time, and proposed a method to divide the load curves. The method been described as:find the biggest absolute difference between every two segments to each load curve, and the point being as the divided point of this load curve. Based on the maintenance of acceptable voltage about nodes and ensure that the limitation of equipment's regulation times, the method divided the load curves. The result of two practical load curves divided based on IEEE 30 nodes system verified that the method of this paper proposed is reasonable and practicable.
