The construction of conservation-oriented landscape is not only having an important meaning for implementing scientific development view, building conservation-oriented society and achieving sustainable development of landscape architecture, but also is an important issue of development of urban landscape architecture. The research of how to use all of the landscape materials scientifically and reasonably is the basement and important part of building conservation-oriented landscape architecture. The application of landscape materials for constructing the conservation-oriented landscape architecture is the core of the thesis. First of all, the thesis analyzes the meanings and characters of conservation, conservation-oriented landscape architecture and the design of material-efficient. Secondly, the thesis summarizes and analyzes the current situation and the problems of the design and use of landscape materials, and then seeks the cause of these problems. Thirdly, based on the analysis of cases of the domestic and overseas' design of material-efficient, the thesis proposes some design principles combining the current situation of the development of landscape trade. And then, based on the design principles, design ideas, material applications and techniques' development, the thesis explores the design methods of the material-efficient design in three ways, such as choosing materials reasonably, technical measures and the ways of using materials. At the end, this paper analysis the benefit of conservation-oriented landscape architecture, ecology, economic and society, and prospect the future of the design of material efficient from the aspect of new material, high technology, engineering management, policies and regulations.
