As a new structural materials,stainless steel has been gradually widely used in load-bearing members of building structures for its excellent corrosion resistance,good mechanic performance. The stainless steel members have high strength and small thickness,the stability problem has become particularly prominent. But the lack of design code for stainless steel structure in china affects the usage of stainless steel structures.Based on experimental data abroad,in paper the finite element method be used to analyse the slenderness ratio and width-to-thickness ratio of specimens.The tangent modulus theory in plates calculation of the effective width be introduced and the stability factor and the effective width about stainless steel structures be recommended. So it can serve as a reference for the design of building structures as well as for modifying correlate code.
