Highway construction of Inner Mongolia is developing. Prairie is wide in Inner Mongolia.Constructed and constructing highway pass inevitably through prairie. Feature of prairie highway is long straight line and small gradient. A lot of accident data indicate long and flat straight section is dangerous. Straight section of prairie highway is long and flat straight section, so that straight line section of prairie highway is dangerous to some extent.According to a lot of accident data, the scholars find fault and carelessness of driver result in accidents, but the real reason is adverse road alignment, which makes driver fell psychologically and physiologically uncomfortable.Traffic engineering psychology's new theory of highway alignment design is the theorety of highway alignment design is based on driver's psychological and physical reactions feature, so that designed alignment is accordance with driver's psychological and physical requirement. Applying new theory of highway alignment design to prairie highway construction will decrease potential safety hazard of prairie highway and improve safe condition of prairie highway. So the longest straight length of prairie highway is researched in terms of driver's psychological and physical reactions, so that designed alignment is accordance with driver's psychological and physical requirement.Landscape of prairie and highway alignment are monotonous, according to traffic engineering psychology's basic theory, the attention or alteration of the driver who drives under this condition is hard to be centralized, and this will be worse when driving longer time. This mental status can result in some physiological indicator changes such as heart rate variation and blink rate change. These physiological indicator changes can be observed with specific equipment, then the model of correlation between the length of prairie highway and driver's physiological indicator can be established, so the prairie highway's optimum length, which meets the need of driver's physiology and psychology, could be calculated. This dissertation contains the field experiment and laboratory simulation experiment. Applying the theory of traffic engineering psychology and medical science, applying the qualitative and quantitative analysis approach, the longest straight length of prairie highway is researched in terms of driver's psychological and physical requirement. The result of field experiment verify the viewpoint that the attention or alteration of the driver who drives on prairie highway is hard to be centralized, the point above is put forward by the traffic engineering psychology. The conclusion of laboratory simulation experiment are as follow: the variation trends of heart rate, SDNN, SDSD, NN50, PNN50 and average blink frequency of driver, are educed. The variation trends of these physiological indicators are different between driving on straight line section and driving on curve section. The models of prairie highway's straight length correlation with heart rate, SDNN, SDSD and PNN50 of driver are established. Based on established models and differential calculus, the longest length of prairie highway straight is 5.17km ,which meets the need of driver's physiology and psychology.
