With the rapid development of the wind turbine in recent years, the wind power is giving rise to an upsurge in many countries. Wind energy as a typical representative of its technology is more mature, it has been known as the preferred development of renewable energy in many countries. Wind turbine development has been made successful in our country. But small wind turbines have some defects, such as control system is simple, control effect is not obvious, and unstable working conditions, low efficiency power generation. Therefore, it is have sufficient practical significance for improving the efficiency and reliability of wind turbine by studying the characteristics of the wind power system and using advanced and reliable control technology in it.This paper introduces the basic theory of the wind turbine structure and composition. A simulation model of wind energy system has been established here, including wind speed, wind turbine, drive chain, permanent magnet synchronous motor and inverter system. At the same time, we analyze the characteristics of the components and study the matching characteristic about wind turbines and PMSG systems. The small wind turbine system having low efficiency and the working state is instability. This paper proposed to apply maximum power point tracking control for small wind power system. And the MPPT control method is the mainly discussed in this paper. Through analysis of several maximum power point tracking control strategies, this paper select hill-climbing algorithm. This control strategy can get the maximum power output by using Speed disturbance and sampling the output power changes.The control system is mainly aimed to control the intermediate DC link of rectifier-inverter, to control motor output. Main control loop used the speed and current dual-loop control, PWM control, to regulate motor output current and voltage, thus it can obtain maximum power output.The main circuit and the control loop of the wind power system are simulated by MATLAB in this paper. By MPPT control strategy, the system can track the maximum power and output stability at different environmental parameters and operation parameters.This paper shows that the control strategy can be a very good track wind turbine's maximum power output and the system is reliable and stable. In the end, the control algorithm is applied to the actual 20kw wind turbine system to improve the efficiency and stability of plant operation.
