Wind power is the strongest growing form of renewable energy and an ideal pollution-free electric power. But wind power is fluctuant, intermittent and stochastic. The large capacity wind power on grid will bring serious challenge to the safety and stabilization of power system and also made it difficult to compete with the general electric power. Wind speed and wind power prediction can largely increase the competitiveness of wind power in the power market. Wind power is a complex non-linear dynamic system. It is very difficult to reveal its inherent rules using the traditional timing prediction technology.This paper was finished on lots of books and thesis about wind power prediction. This paper discussed methods of wind power prediction and described the method of SVM(Support Vector Machine). SVM is applied to predict wind speed and wind power based on the data of Dabancheng wind farm. Models were built and three kernels were analyzed and then simulated under the environment of MATLAB. Experimental result is satisfactory .SVM method is evidently superior to others. SVM overcomes problems of low precision, large amount of calculation and time-calculating cost.
