With the development of the electric power industry in recent years, the XLPE cable has been widely applied. However,the defaults has been increasing after a period of years using. To conform the safety of power network,the detection of the high voltage cable should be highly valued.One of the research focus is high voltage cable partial discharge(PD) detection.This paper studies the insulation aging theories and partial discharge characteristics of the XLPE cable and emulates the propagation process of the PD signals in the XLPE cable.Base on the exit methods of the PD detection,this paper develops a kind of pincer-like sensor which is based on Rogowski coil.At last,this paper uses the ultrasound measurement technology to carry on the charging contact measurement of the XLPE cable.It can measure the value of the PD capacity correctly and judge the PD signals and the interference signals effectively, which improves the detection rate of the XLPE cable faults and assures healthy operation of the equipments.
