The stell frame is commonly used in high-rise building, and the beam-to-column connections is the important part of the stell frame.In practice,the beam-to-column connections is difficult to achieve fully rigid or ideal pinned connections.The joint stiffness is always between fully rigid and ideal pinned connections. In fact,it belong to semi-rigid connections. Eccentrically braced semi-rigid steel frame is a new type of brace resistant steel frame. This is also a useful attempt to explore the ideal seismic system. To study the damage mechanism of eccentrically braced semi-rigid steel frames under seismic effects has a great significance for theory and practice.This paper mainly analyzed the dynamic characteristics of eccentrically braced semi-rigid steel frames. Study included dynamic behavior tests and finite element analysis. The latter was the primary part. The former was adjunctive part, and was used to verify the reliability of the latter.The cyclic tests are V-shaped eccentrically braced steel frames and V-shaped eccentrically braced semi-rigid steel frames.Results of the experiment shows that the hysteresis curve of frame with welded connections or angle connections is not full and fold phenomenon occur.This paper processed the time-history of eccentrically braced and semi-rigid steel frames through the finite element analysis software.More than 60 species of 6 series are computed.The major factors, such as, span and layer numbers of frames,rotation stiffness of frame connections, support types and the peak acceleration of seismic wave were considered during the dynamic performance analysis of the frames. The results show that:compared to the eccentrically braced rigid frames,the eccentrically braced semi-rigid steel frames have a larger level deformation and the dissipation and bearing capacity of frames reduce; eccentrically braced semi-rigid steel frames yield earlier than eccentrically braced rigid steel frames; eccentrically braced rigid steel frames and eccentrically braced semi-rigid steel frames both have an excellent hysteretic behavior.Based on the results of tests and analysis, it could sum up the properties of eccentrically braced semi-rigid steel frame.Advice were presented in this paper.It can be referenced for the research and application of eccentrically braced and semi-rigid steel frames.
