Having made such a contribution to energy saving and consumption reduction in lots of industries, lubricant is widely used in modern daily life and have played an important role in supporting national economic development. In recent years, with the increase of the mechanism's complexity and the popularization of environmental protection, the ancient lubricant can not accord with the demands of the market. Then, it is of great importance and urgency to research multi-function and environmentally friendly lubricant.In this paper, four kinds of derivatives of benzothiazole were synthesized and added into degradable base oil (diester) to verify their lubrication quality. Among many sorts of lubricants, derivative of benzothiazole attracted a great deal of research concern, because of it's high structure stability, good hot-stability and outstanding lubrication performance.In the experiments, four kinds of derivatives of benzothiazole were firstly synthesized with following procedures. Secondly, their hot-stability and causticity were reviewed to confirm that they could be used as additives. Then their anti-wear and anti-friction performance was detected on a four-ball machine. Finally, SEM and XPS were used to analyse the mechanism of the lubrication system. Here are the conclusions of this work:1. All of the synthesized compounds are novel derivatives of benzothiazole.2. Except for BZOA (acceptable), the synthesized compounds have good hot-stability, however, the copper strip corrosion test result indicated that they have negative influence on corrosion.3. The four kinds of compounds possessed outstanding anti-wear and anti-friction performance, and could be applied as substitutes for ZDDP in certain aspects4. The analysis result of friction film indicated that the additives occurred adsorbtion to the metal, both physical and chemical. Then friction chemical reaction take out between them to form an anti-friction film whose usual constituents is mainly FeS and FeS2.
