Cadmium telluride(CdTe) and cadmium sulfide(CdS) are common semiconductor materials used in thin film solar cells. The conversion efficiency of CdTe/CdS thin film solar cell has reached 16.5% in the laboratory. In this paper, we have studied the preparation, treatment and characterization of the related materials in CdTe thin film solar cells.In ChapterⅠ,we first studied the history of solar cells and the basic work principle of it. Then we introduced characteristics and structure of the CdTe and CuInSe2 thin film solar cell. Finally, ohmic contact in the CdTe thin film solar cell has been learned.In ChapterⅡ, polycrystalline CdTe thin films were successfully prepared by three electrodes electrochemical deposition. XRD, Rman, SEM were used to investigate the effect of CdCl2 heat treatment on the microstructure and crystal structure of as-deposited CdTe.In Chapter III, We first studied the chemical bath deposition mechanism of CdS film and the effect of CdCl2 heat treatment on microstructure, surface morphology, crystal structure and optical properties of CdS film. We also adopted a structure of Glass/FTO/CdS/CdTe/CdS to study the effect of CdCl2 annealing treatment on the interdiffusion and the related reaction at the CdS/CdTe interface. CdS0.85Te0.15 with hexagonal-wurtzite structure were detected at 550℃. CdCl2 protected CdS/CdTe from oxidation and promoted formation of CdSxTe1-x during air annealing.In Chapter IV, we have introduced the principle and device of the close spaced sublimation in CdTe thin film preparation. Then we studied the mechanism of bromine-methanol chemical etching and the chemical composition, microstructure changes of CdTe surface. Through the exploration and optimization of bromine-methanol chemical etching conditions, the author has produced a CdTe thin film solar cell with 12.4% conversion efficiency.
