Masonry structure, as the main structure, has been widely used in China's vast rural area. The application of the cast-in-place concrete tie-column and the effective exertion of its seismic performance meet with difficulties due to the lagging economic and cultural development in these areas, which is still followed by the lack of seismic resistance awareness and relevant technology. According to this situation, a new technology called precast tie-column is proposed. The influence of aspect ratio, vertical compressed stress and mortar strength on first crack pattern of masonry wall in pseudo-static test has been quantified. Pseudo-static tests for the three types of specimen( walls without details of seismic design, walls with cast- in- place concrete tie- column and walls with precast tie- column. a total of 10 specimens) were conducted, and the failure process and failure mode of the walls have been investigated, the seismic behavior of these three types of specimen has been analyzed and compared from the aspects such as strength, deformation, ductility, stiffness degradation, and energy consumption. The analysis of the records and measurement data of the experimental phenomena indicates that: precast tie-column, as a constraint measures of masonry wall, can make wall crack and damage more uniform and dispersed, can change the failure characteristics of the wall from brittle, which is obviously, to ductile, can mitigate the degradation rate of lateral stiffness at capacity decline stage, and improve the deformability and energy-dissipation capacity of the wall.Precast tie-column, as a new, cost-effective measures for details of seismic design, can significantly improve seismic behavior of the masonry wall, and be used in rural buildings suitably.
