The driver factor plays the primary role in the traffic transport system. The visual system as the input channel for sensory information is necessary when drivers are on their driving. In order to reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents, it is necessary to analyze drivers'visual search characters.The relevant researches on drivers'dynamic visual characters are almost based on characterization parameters.we propose the concept of entropy rate to analyze whether it can be used in driving area. In information theory, entropy rate, which is currently widely used in mathematical field, represents the efficiency of source information.In this article, the driver's fiaxations are devided into 7 areas according to the datum of 12 drivers in urban environment collected by the eye tracking system-eyelinkâ…¡and the vedio of driving. Additionally, we obtained parameters of heart rate by KF2 in the experiment. Based on the above, we can get entropy rate of different drivers based on the existing formula.First of all, we discuss the individual varibility of entropy rate. Results indicate that different drivers'values of entropy rate are various;secondly,we analyze the relationship between entropy rate and corresponding growth of heart rate,which indicates a linear connection. So we can give a rough estimation on dirvers'workload.This article discusses the affecting factors of entropy rate form different proficiency, different traffic volumes and different turning ways. The results reveal that entropy rate of non-experienced drivers is a little higher; the traffic volumes are heavier, the values are higher;and the conclusion that the value is highest when turning left, lowest when straight,is consistent to the level of workload.That is to say, it needs greater randomness in heavier traffic volumes.According to the video in driving, we find the traffic volume, the speed and traffic signals are all influential to the values of dirvers'entropy rate.
