Study On The Travel Behaviors And Characteristics

Study on the travel behavior is the basic work in the transportation planning, design and management. Through the research of the individuals'travel behaviors, we can find the fac-tors which influence the individuals'travel behaviors, the behavior patterns and the rules of the variation, which can be applied in the transportation planning, design and management.Commuting travels are the basic and the most important travels for the urban residents, thus this thesis made study on the trip chain pattern choice and the mode choice of the work-ing trip chains based on the Multiple Logistic model and Nested Logit model using the household survey data. Based on the researches of Chen Tuansheng (2008) and Yang min (2009), the trip chain pattern choice model in this thesis considered the influences of modes on the trip chain pattern, and the trip chain pattern was divided into five classes (hwh, hwhwh, hwh+, hwhwh+, hw+wh) rather than two classes (simple trip chain and complex trip chain). The model results were analyzed and the travel characteristics and the rules in the trip chain pattern choice and mode choice were summarized. The research will play an important role in the establishment of the activity based traffic demand forecasting model and will have refer-ence values for the travel demand management policy making and implementation for reliev-ing the urban traffic jams.On the other hand, this thesis made study on the route choice behaviors of the toll road users. Since nearly all of the expressways in China are parallel to the second-class highways on the same traffic corridor, the drivers will make decisions on the travel routes, which will need researches on the travel characteristics and behaviors of the toll road users. Based on the survey data on the expressways and its parallel roads and the researches at home and abroad, the factors which influence the route choices are analyzed by using the correlation tests, and the factors mainly include vehicle type, vehicle ownership, cargo type, trip purpose and trip distance. The characteristics and rules in the route choice on the toll road corridors are sum-marized, and the route choice model of the toll road corridor based on the Binomial Logistic model was established as well.
