In recent years, concrete-filled steel tubes had been wide used in build structure, Now, As a new structure system (diagonal grim system) appeared, the specific performance of the concrete-filled steel tubes have been full played. a new component will be generated in the core region of the diagonal grim system, its performance will influence the whole structure, it is necessary to study it deeply.Based on ago study result, this paper have carried out study on behavior and calculation methods of this new component subjected to compression condition. the main achievement can be summarized as follows:(1) Width of the tension plate ,rigidity of end plates, eccentricity were chosen to the main parameters, twenty four concrete-filled steel tubes were tested under compression condition. the data were measured during the experimental Process, such as bearing capacity, deformation an so on.the behavior of this component were studied and simplified calculation method for bearing capacity have been discussed.(2) In this paper the longitudinal strain, horizontal strain, overall deformation characters, failure mechanism and failure modes of the tube and tension plate under compression condition were observed and studied. effect of the tension slab were studied throughout the loading process.(3) Load-deformation curve of concrete-filled steel tubes under local compression was obtained by ABAQUS, which is a common analysis software by finite element method(FEM).Comparisons between the predicted results and tested results were carried out, and good agreements were achieved. it demonstrated that the numerical method is reliable. based on the numerical method, the stress distributions in the steel tube, tension plate and core concrete were investigated throughout the loading process. Working mechanism of this new component was discovered deeply under compression condition.
