Engineering disaster of red sandstone is a subject of extreme complication and implications. How to construct projects and manage better and effectively in such rock is always a problem puzzling many experts in roads.Red sandstone formation in the northeast of Changsha was deposited in turn by soft and hard rock and taken to be the secondary depressed area of the primary subsidence zone in Cathaysian structural system,which had been formed during the period of the Cretaceous to early Tertiary. The special mechanical properties of the soft layer has low strength,weak resistance to weathering,soften by water and collapse after losing water. The text analyses the characteristics of the area of Changsha and geological construct background,and understand the rule of distribution of red sandstones in the area. According to the relationship between mineral composition,characters in physics and mechanics and collapse and its structure,the author studies huanbao garden's red sandstone,and observes the course of red sandstones'collapse,and analyses the collapse mechanism of red sandstones and its collapse soil's road capabilities. Finally,by studying the collapse substance's characters in physics and mechanics and road capabilities,the paper is feasible to use the red sandstones'collapse substance as the filler of city's road.The result indicates that,if we make use of the characteristics of red sandstones'collapsibility,we can control and expedite its collapse to improve work efficiency. And based on the engineering characteristics of red sandstones,we study the construction technics to improve road capabilities of its collapse soil to conform to the requirements of the standard or rule,then to control and ensure engineering quality. The research results have a certain theoretical significance and practical value of red sandstone areas of research projects from the slope of a certain effect on the future of engineering practice is also of great guiding significance.
