With the increasing demand of petroleum product, the oil reserves surveyed in the world is assumed insufficient, which posed threat to many country's energy securities. Moreover, with unceasingly consuming of petroleum, the environment pollution is more serious. This constitutes two hot issues which the whole world most concerned about, namely energy and environment question. Modern science and technology and society is developing in unprecedented speed, which proposed many new challenges to the tradition's power unit-internal combustion engine, such as the power, the efficiency, the durability as well as the emissions . Only to bring forth the new, to propose the new concept and technology, the internal combustion engine has the possibility not to be eliminated by society's development. As the locomotive diesel engine oil consumption is high and the output power is larger, and the extraction flow achieves 2~8 kg/s, which forms the extremely high partial scope of the air pollution. To revolve the low energy consumption and reduce harmful emission, developing the new energy positively, seeking for the alternate fuel is the inevitable choice. Because of low price and pollution, the natural gas receives people's enormous attention. The development of gas engine solves traditional energy crisis effectively.The present paper uses the GT-POWER software, which is used in the engine stable and transient state simulation computation specially. In the paper, first introduce the computation theory and algorithm of GT-POWER in detail, including work process in the cylinder, the flow of gas in tube, the heat transfer of wall, as well as combustion model and emissions model and so on. It establishes complete model of 16V240ZJ diesel engine, including air intake system, exhaust system, cylinder, crank case, nozzle, air compressor, turbine, filter and so on. Simulation is carried out under certain condition ,and the result was revised and analyzed. By simulating ,we obtains the pressure, the temperature, the fuel oil consumption rate and so on. It test s the accuracy of the model by comparing of the result of simulation and experiment. Again with the accurate model, though changing fuel system and design parameters and so on, we analyze the application of gas fuel in diesel locomotive ,such as engine's active status, kinetic, efficiency and emissions.Through analysis and research of many transformation plans, the best transformation plan is obtained in the locomotive engine combustion of gas fuel situation,which provides the basis for carrying on the reality machine experiment and the improvement locomotive engine's performance.
