Changan BenBen Form Design Based On Trends And Evolutionary Design

The research is part of 973 Research Project--The Knowledge-base Industrial Design Assistant System, and a cooperation project between Automotive Laboratory in Hunan University and Chang'an Automobile (Group) Co. Ltd:"Form Gene and High-level Semantic Based Evaluation System of Changan Automotive Products."This paper presented Changan BenBen form design based on trends and evolutionary, aim at introducing evolution design into form design, which makes design knowledge acquired, organized and applied better. Evolution design helps concept generating. gives design thinking and innovation a more specific purpose, provides a theoretical and technology base for computer-aided design.The research bases on psychology, form research, evolution theory, concept generation method, propose the design method. This method in view of trends and evolutionary design, uses feature line as a clue, studies automotive styling trend from the horizontal and vertical respects, and then use it to guide the evolutionary design. The samples of evolutionary design are selected in two ways:geometric and semantic features perspectives, which make comprehensive. Through the evolutionary algorithm, the fine elements in samples generate new design concept. Using this method, we had completed a series of concept design for BenBen.This method inspires design thinking and imagination, reduces design iteration cycle. And the outputs are in keeping with the trends while maintaining the continuity of the brand. It has a very important theoretical and practical significance for car innovative design.
