Today, automobile has become an indispensible transportation in our daily lives. With the development of automobile industry and the rapid increment of private cars, vehicle performances have already aroused public's attention. The test of vehicle performance could provide useful information to assess the correction of product design, the feasibility of structure layout, the reliability of parts and the advantage of the product. At present, there are many ways that are widely used in automobile engineering for vehicle performance test such as computer simulation, laboratory experiment and road test. Computer simulation is convenient, economic and time-saving. And with the application of the relative software, the characteristics of vehicle can be obtained and analyzed. It can give more information of vehicle performance with less cost. Because of the difficulty of modeling and the difference with actual vehicle physical parameters, the error is hard to control. Laboratory experiment is carried out on drum tester under different load cases. But it can not deal with the performance test of automotive controllability and stability. However, road test is a preliminary procedure during automobile research. It is carried out on the proving ground and can give more useful and valid information of vehicle performance than others.With the increment of automobile velocity, the security requirements of automobiles are become more serious every day. Vehicle performance,especially automotive controllability and stability test, has beeing gained the whole world concern. The main purpose of this system is applied in automotive controllability and stability test. By the way, the success of this system base on two important aspects. The first of all, it relys on the mutual cooperate of GPS, AHRS and steering angle and power tester. Last but not least, it also depends upon the one of virtual instrument's research methods ------LABVIEW .Firstly, a lot of studies and analyses have been made on properties of GPS,AHRS and steering angle and power tester,especially data's form and how to change it into useful information. Then, the properties of GPS, AHRS and steering angle and power tester are cooperated to complete the automotive controllability and stability test system based on LABVIEW. With the system, steady static circular test, steering wheel angle step input test, steering efforts test and pylon course slalom test can be easily done. The window of the system is beautiful and the operation methods are easy. When the system is running, the track of test process ,velocity, handling angle, angular velocity, acceleration and so on are displayed and the parameters of the automobile are showed both in digital type and graph type, which is convenient for the operator to monitor the process of the test. In order to verify the reliability of the test's results, comparisons between the velocity got from GPS and the GDS-â…¡velocity sensor had been made, and according to the results, they inosculate each other very well. It also indicated that GPS's precision is better than GDS-â…¡velocity sensor. In the end, road tests prove that this system can generally meet the requirements of automotive controllability and stability test.
