Concrete structures with specially shaped columns are structures which use T-shaped, L-shaped and'+'-shaped cross sections instead of the general rectangular cross sections of frame columns as vertical supporting components. This kind of structures can avoid the protruding of frame columns in the interior, take less building space, and improve the visual impact of the building. As new structural forms, specially shaped columns have been used widely in multi-storey residential building and other types of buildings. However, since structure with specially shaped columns is a new type of structural system of independent innovation in China, existing experimental study and data of theoretical analysis are less than other structural systems, and the data of earthquake damage are not sufficient. So the study on concrete structures with specially shaped columns is still at the development stage. This paper study on the design of reinforced concrete structures with specially shaped columns and application with practical examples, the chief research contents are summarized as folows:First, from the concept design, study on cross-section selection, structural arrangement of structures with specially shaped columns and basic requirements of structural system. For irregular shaped structures with specially shaped columns doing damage analysis. Puts forward the design requirements and the earthquake resistance measures that need to be taken combination of shape design.Second, by the comparison presentation of PKPM old and new versions, by comparing the two kinds of softwares PKPM and CRSC combined with practical examples. To guide the designers how to do a reasonable choice of design software. Doing a systematic introduction to the points and main contents of structure calculation. Combined with PKPM software to study on the determined and adjustment of the structural calculated parameters deeply.Third, combined with the theoretical formula and experimental results. Studying on flexural capacity, capacity of oblique section and shear capacity of nodes of structures with specially shaped columns. By comparing the formula calculated results with the test results of cross-section bearing capacity, comparing the cross-section bearing capacity of columns with different sections, to work out the corresponding conclusions. At the same time, combined with the engineering examples, analyzed that in the design of structures with specially shaped columns, how to adopt reasonable measures to solve the problem that lack of shear capacity of nodes.Fourth, combined with the engineering examples, introducing the application of structures with specially shaped columns in the actual project. Through the software calculation and the structural arrangement, in-depth study on points of structures with specially shaped columns. According to the calculation of amount of engineering materials, analysis of the comprehensive benefit of structures with specially shaped columns. Meanwhile, by many more comparation that combined with the program of structures with rectangular shaped columns and the program of structures with specially shaped columns, drawing their own advantages and disadvantages, which can provide the reference for the designers and the researchers of structures with specially shaped columns.
