Recently, the buildings damages adjacent to the deep foundation pit often occur and result in the significant personnel casualty and the economic loss. Consequently, the engineers and researchers have paid more attention this topic. To ensure the stability of excavation in complex construction environment and the safety of adjacent buildings, the deformation effect of foundation pit excavation on surrounding buildings has become an urgent issue to resolve.Based on a practical example of adjacent buildings deformation induced by pit excavation for a large-scale project in Hefei City, the corresponding numerical analysis model was constructed by means of professional software using three-dimensional finite difference method in this dissertation. Then the effect of foundation pit excavation on deformation of adjacent buildings was discussed. Moreover, and compared with the measured value of site. Some main results are shown in the following:1) The results from numerical simulation agree with the results from the site measured vales. The proposed numerical model can simulate excavation effect on deformation of adjacent buildings.2) The deformation of the surrounding buildings induced by pit excavation was related with the distance near to the foundation pit. The displacements in the ground and at pile were smaller outside of building. But the values in middle of building were bigger. And the deeper of excavation, the larger of deformations were.3) The lateral displacement and bending moment of pile were decreased with the increase of the buried depth, but those were larger at the ground surface and at the foundation pit bottom.4) It is found that the appropriate support structure should be used to reduce the deformation of neighboring buildings during the excavation of foundation pit surrounded by buildings.The results from numerical simulation will provide the theoretical basis and technical support for reducing the disaster risk of excavation project neighboring buildings.
