Carbon fiber reinforced concrete (CFRC) is a kind of multifunctional concrete based composite material by uniformly admixing short carbon fibers into concrete, and it not only has good mechanical characters but also possesses the sensing ability, such as compression sensitivity, temperature sensitivity, etc. Carbon fiber reinforced concrete's resistance possesses the character of changing with the change of its stress field and strain field, so the impairment of the structure can be monitored by measuring its resistance. Furthermore, a method based on carbon fiber reinforced concrete's sensitivity is adopted to predict the remaining life of the structures. As it possesses the above virtues, carbon fiber reinforced concrete emerges good and wide prospect in the field of health monitoring of large-scale complicated infrastructures, such as road, bridges, large dams and structures of ocean.Mainly a theoretical basis is offered for the health monitoring of traffic system by this paper. For a new experimental method for compression sensitivity of CFRC being presented in this paper, the main work is as follows:Firstly, a rounded comment was made on the study of CFRC all over the world in this paper. The preparation technics of CFRC was studied. The problem of equably dispersion is mixing methylcellulose and silica fume and a perfect measuring method was put forward too.Secondly, the influence of different factors, such as the contents of CF, age, electrode form, disposal mode, and loading directions, on the conductivity and compression sensitivity is studied by experiment. The method of testing the compression sensitivity of CFRC is confirmed.Finally, the experimental system was set up to investigate the compression sensitivity on the electric resistance of CFRC. The resistance changing of CFRC under dead and live loading is studied. The experimental result showed that there exists a remarkable compression dependence on the conductivity of CFRC and the resistance of CFRC can reflect quantitatively the loading on it, so the CFRC can be used as compression sensor.CFRC are structural and functional materials, and can be used for health monitoring of structure. The compression sensitivity of CFRC system can monitor not only the vehicle-speed, the weights and traffic flux, but also the distortion and the damage of the road. Therefore it is expansive for application. The above study findings can help to understand the smart property and the mechanics of electric conduction of CFRC, and it is also important to put CFRC to engineering as soon as possible.
