Research On The Continuity Of Town Traditional Blocks And Their Life Culture Of Taizhou, Zhejiang

With the speeding up of urbanization, buildings in the places around town are becomingstandardized. As the cultural carrier of the original local live, the traditional space is undersevere threat. The cultural life and neighborhood relationship of the Chinese traditional townis embodied with extremely complicated blood, geo and working ties, and is influenced bytraditional customs and local religious belief. The traditional space and this neighborhoodrelationship are melded into one another, inter-dependent. With the fading of theneighborhood relationship, the traditional space could only be maintained without its vitality.On the other hand, if the traditional space disappears, the traditional would also lose itsexistence space.China is a late-comer in modernization. Out of such objective and historical causes,modernization could easily go too fast, which normally lead to the losing of the preciousbreaking-in period of modernization between the local culture and modern maturity. Roughlydemolishing and replacing deny the rationality of traditional culture and space which are seenas the pronoun of backwardness and poverty. City becomes a common dream. In towns andsmall-medium cities, original architectural space is rapidly replaced by civic architecture.Modernization is booming over the debris of history.Basic on the investigation and overview of some existed traditional blocks in Taizhou,the changing process and the status quo of the main traditional blocks in towns are researchedby cultural life and neighborhood relationship in this paper. Real life is integrated into theunderstanding of material space, so that the cultural and life value of traditional block as wellas the feasibility of its development and maintain are discussed. The discussion of protectionand preservation of traditional blocks which is separated from social life would be unrealisticto the view of the author. The confliction between the traditional blocks and modern notionsof life and the cultural diminishing that follow should be recognized. However, to diminishdoes not necessarily be equal to vanish or abandon. This paper is tried to convey the idea thatthe influence of the diminishing traditional blocks to local customs and culture isirreplaceable. The vitality of traditional blocks is declining, however the culture kept. Thetraditional culture is still influencing the society in its unique way. In the first chapter, the research background as well as the research content and methodsare illustrated, and the relative concepts are preliminary analyzed.
