The determination of interim cable forces of a concrete cable-stayed bridge construction using form traveler is a key factor that affects the safety of bridge construction. The form traveler experiences different conditions during graded tension construction, which makes stress analysis necessary.Based on an example of a concrete cable-stayed bridge construction project, interim cable forces are calculated in bound of bridge structure and construction safety by form traveler, i.e., firstly, allowable scopes of interim cable forces are calculated according to limitations of the traveler, then the average value of the upper and lower limits is taken into main girder calculation and adjustment is applied accordingly to get the final solution. On the other side, a space shell elements model is established to analyze the stress and deformation of the form traveler during seven different conditions. Sub-model technology and contact element analysis method are applied in detailed analysis to solve the stress concentration around the hook. At last, zero-order algorithm is used to optimize the quality of form traveler on the basis of stress and deformation.It is more convenient and scientific to use a numerical method to determine interim cable forces according to the forces limitations of traveler and main girder. The analysis result shows that the form traveler has sufficient reserves of stress and deformation, and the interim tensions are effective to improve its force. Calculation results of Sub-model technology and contact element show that the peak stress reduces 17.48% and 12.57% respectively, both of them improve the situation of partial stress concentrations of form traveler structure obviously and can be applied in the similar large-scale complex engineering structures. And the result that the weight of form traveler decrease 25% after optimization shows the availability of lighter development of form traveler by design optimization.
