Connecting rod assembly is one of the main transmission of internal-combustion engine, its design has been very mature in China, but still exist some defects. In view of the current CAD technology and development of technology of UG domestic research status, and the problems existing in the design of connecting rod assembly. This paper develops CAD system of connecting rod assembly based on COM component technology.This paper studies the theoretical knowledge of COM technology, UG WAVE top-down technology and external data communications technology with UG, and established the theoretical basis for development of CAD system for connecting rod assembly.Using three layers of C/S structure on the design of the system, this paper divides connecting rod assembly CAD system into customer, intermediate and data layer. COM components plays a very important role as intermediate layer, customer layer calls it to complete parametric design of connecting rod assembly and the calls of connecting rod assembly database. This paper studies the application of UG WAVE on the top-down design of connecting rod assembly in detail, and make related links about the component parts by the WAVE technology, completes the top-down parametric design of connecting rod assembly.Finally, this paper introduces the development process based on COM components of CAD system, and explains the process of system through the parametrization of connecting rod assembly, according to the product, designers only input design parameters in user interface, design parameters will update the model of components automatically, and assemble into new connecting rod assembly, and improve the design efficiency greatly. The application of CAD system will shorten the cycle of development for connecting rod assembly of internal combustion engine connecting group and economize resources for enterprise.
