With the rapid development of industrial equipment and aerospace technology,design and preparation of high-performance engineering materials become more important .As a new kind of Ultra-light Cellular Materials, metal foam can be used in compact heat exchangers for air borne equipments, heat sinks for power electronics in the thermal management due to its predominate performance,such as low-density, large surface area in a limited volume,high thermal conductivity of the cell edges and the ability to mix the cooling fluid by promoting eddies. As the development of the electronic equipment to ward integration and miniaturization and the increasing of the power density, thermal management becomes one of leading problems that limit the development of the electronic equipment. It is desired to develop electronic equipments with a better thermal structure and internal flow field which can improve the heat dissipation capability,reduce the important component'temperature and increase the stability and life.This paper designs and built a metal foam used in electronic cooling radiator performance test research systems, the air flow through the metal foam heat sink to conduct an experimental study of convective heat transfer, the study of metal foam as the foam porosity 30ppi copper, 30ppi foam copper-nickel and 70ppi of nickel foam. The effects of different air velocity, the same hole density foam filled with metal pieces of electronic radiator cooling performance.Research the results showed: As the velocity increases, the air flowing through the metal foam heat sink piece of electronic heat capacity of the convection increases, while increase in friction, the average convective heat transfer coefficient increases, the power on the strength of convective heat transfer is small;70ppi metal nickel foam filled electric radiator parts,because of its large surface area . so instantaneous heat dissipation state heat better than 30ppi metal foam metallic copper and metal foam nickel copper nickel-filled electric radiator parts; a given flow rate, due to 30ppi copper and copper-nickel aperture of the pressure drop is much less than 70ppi metal foam nickel; as the same resistance 70ppi metal foam-filled radiator cooling performance as 30ppi metal foam heat sink; 30ppi and thermal conductivity of copper metal foam metallic foam is better than 30ppi copper and nickel;The comparative analysis, 30ppi metal foam heat sink with a good over all performance.
