The research on modules of architecture is a relatively old topic, but nowadays,under the background of industrialization ,modernization, and informationtechnology,it has shown its new meaning. The basic techniques and principlesbehind all kinds of works and a variety of ideas are still the main points that weshould pay attention to learn.The type of construction involved modulus areextremely broad, covering almost all the civil construction, particularly in thedevelopment of global standardization movement, the growing importance of moduleare widespread paid attention , and the study of module also constantly emerging, Atthe same time in the new background of age , module of architecture are alsochanging both in the form and function, and now it is very practical significance toresurrect to study this subject.Modules is not only applied in the construction process, in the design process ithas also played a huge role, this article is intended to sum up the fundamentalcharacteristics of modules in a broad sense, which show the relatively complete shapeand effect of modules. The line of thought is to start from the fundamental categoriesof building, to discuss the form of expression and function at a few fundamentalcategories of building.Using deduction, induction, summarize, comparative and other research methods,paper based on analysis combined theory and design examples, so that research ismuch more targeted and persuasive. Firstly, this article classified and sum up thevariety of modulus phenomena that appeared in history ,trying to find the generalshape and basic characteristics of modulus,and then introducted the relevant theoriesto explore the laws behind the form in-depth, then return to the original fundamentalcategories to analyse the detail of aspects such as generation mechanism, the role andthe method of using.Throughout the discussion process, the article always concerned about thecombination of modulus and the historical background, and forecast the developmenttrend of the modulus; the example in the article are more of classic typical examples,but attention also been paid to the recent building examples in order to increase thetimeliness of the article.The innovation point of this paper is to make research on the most basic of thecategories of building, and the introduction of fractal, visual perception and a seriesof related theories, refining a relatively complete form of the modulus.
