Research On The Form Characteristic Of Chinese Contemporary Urban Sculpture

Currently, one of the most important fields in urban design is planning and design of urban public space, while the comprehension at the social humanities level is superficial. By deeply studying the form characteristics of urban sculpture, the issues perception, and imagery of environment of urban sculpture shapes perceptive structure, which is transmitted to the receiver through sculpture language and symbol. The main function of urban sculpture is to improve urban imagery to show urban public ethics, to construct urban cultural ecosystem, and to convey urban aesthetic idea, which becomes a kind of public art form with humanity characteristics in the urban public space.The form language of urban sculpture is the core of the works, which is divided into realistic recurrence form and abstract non-recurrence form according to realistic and abstract form, divided into frame structure, figure structure, regular variation, conglomeration composition, and space group based on configurational structure form, and divided into independent and dependent form, enclosed and coverd form, and bulge and invagination form on basis of space form. The technique of expression of contemporary urban sculpture includes emotion, content, style, material, and environment performance. Irrational art idea and consumption culture influence the causes of form characteristics of urban sculpture, meanwhile, information society also poses a new request for the form of urban sculpture.The form characteristics of urban sculpture are listed as follows. First, interaction of the public paticipation displaying readability of the form, blending with social activities, and the interaction of the public behavior. Second, cultural ecology in harmony showing the interaction with urban environment, the dialogue of subject with object, and the symbiosis of space environment. Third, symbol characteristic of public space expressing region and urban identification. Fourth, popular characteristic of consumption era expressing diversification, entertainment, and popularity. Fifth, signifying characteristics of traditonal culture displaying the establishment of traditional symbol and metaphor sign. Sixth, diversification of material technique expressing the heterization treatment of material quality, the application of the new material, comprehensive material put together, and the processing technique of high technology.
