Two experiments were conducted to Study the effect of the different supplement level ofFOS on the control of potential escalation of Salmonella typhimruium colonization druingyoung chickens, and the effects of FOS, PS(probiotics) and Zinc bacitracin on performance, intestinal bacteria population and availability of nutrition. In expement l:96 broilers randomly assigned to four groups, with four replicaions pergroup. The control group was provided with the basal diet. FOS was added to the basal diet atthe level of 0.5%, l.0% and 2.0% respectively Chickens were challenged per os at day 16 byproviding water containing 10~8 S.typhimurium per milliliter At day l7,l9 and 2l, the cecalcontents were examined for S.typhimurium, pH and cecal weight. The result showed that 0.5%,l.0% and 2.0% FOS bouced significantly the population of Salmonella by 56.28%(P<0.05),56.52%(P<0.05) and 57.73%(P<0.05) respectively at day l9 and 54.49%(P >0.05), 52.99%(P>0.05) and 45.69%(P>0.05) respectively at day l7. There was no different amongtreatments of FOS. FOS made cecal weights have an increasing tendency, but did not affectpH.In experiment 2:l92 broilers were randomly assigned to four groups, with fourreplications per group. The control group(Ⅰ) was fed with the basal diet (not including anydrug additive ). FOS(Ⅱ),DFM(Ⅲ)and Zinc bacitracin(Ⅳ) was respectively added to the basaldiet at the level of 1.5%,800mg/kg and 300mg/kg to form four experiment diets. Weight, feedintake and feed efficiency were measured. The feeding trial starts at 1d and ends at 49d. Atday l4,2l,35 and 49, four broilers per group were killed and removed the cecum to testbacteria, pH and moisture contnt. Metabolic trial was done at 50d of age. The rosult showedthat the dietaly FOS inhibits growth significanly(P<0.05 ).Daily weigh gain cach group wasrespectively 45.75g, 42.l7g, 45.42g and 46.66g. The average weigh of 49d was 2285.94g,2110.62g 2269.75g and 2330.85g Wively FOS decreased daily weight gain and theweight of 49d by 7.83% (P<0.05 ) and 7.67% (P<0.05 ) feed intake and feed to gain were nodifferent among poups (P>0.05),but feed intak of the FOS group was dectrased4.28%,3.39% and 5.48% respectively, feed to gain was increased 3.98%,3.98% and 4.50%respectiveyly, when compared with the control, PS and Zinc bacitracin Zinc bacitracinimproved they weight gain by l.99% but the effect is not apparent. The performance wasunaffected by supplement of PS. The dietary FOS increased Bifidobacterium concentration by!.75-fold(P<0.05)at 14d of4eand!.45-fold(P<0.05)at21dofqe.FOShasnoeffecton pH,moisture content and availability ofnutrition(P>0.05).
